We invite you to take a virtual “mini tour” of perhaps the most unique and little know natural and cultural resource in the region.  Our website was recently redesigned and contains both written descriptions and many photographs of the offerings you will find on the grounds and in our facilities when you visit.

      Just a sampling … Nature at Her finest including nearly 20,000 annuals, perennial beds, an extensive bonsai collection, Yoshino Cherry Trees (grown from cuttings of the Washington, D.C. Tidal Basin Trees), a grove of Dawn Redwoods, Bald Cypress Trees, a formal rose garden and Tropical gardens.  Other features include a Japanese Garden, 2 lakes, numerous water features including a 30 foot waterfall, a working vegetable garden and fruit tree orchard.

      Cultural features include a 1800’s Manor House containing Archaic Bronze some of which is 5,000 years old, Antique carved jade pieces, Oriental and Persian rugs, artwork and numerous unique collectables and antique furniture. 
      
      The gardens are a popular venue for outdoor weddings and receptions offering a variety of options to provide just the right atmosphere and vista.  In addition, the new 5,000 square foot Brown Welcome Center is available for indoor events from weddings to business retreats.

      The Schedel Arboretum & Gardens was opened to the public in 1991.  The many treasures on display here are the legacy of Joseph and Marie Schedel.  It had always been the Schedel’s wish that their collections of desirable species of plants and trees, antiques, art, artifacts and rare objects be preserved, curated, enjoyed, and appreciated by the public upon their demise.

      The Schedel Foundation was charged with the privilege of that task in 1989.  Since then the gardens have continually evolved and have added even more interesting and desirable species and new beds that now total more than 100.

      By visiting our website you will get a sampling of all this.  We virtually never have a visitor offer anything but amazing comments so we hope you will take the opportunity to visit and see for yourself.  You’ll be glad you did.
