Always mindful of the Mission and the Schedel’s fiat from which it arose, the SA&G has evolved and grown from its beginnings in 1991. Funding for initiatives of the SA&G comes from admissions, memberships, fundraisers, grants and most importantly, the many individual benefactors who share their belief in the mission of the SA&G. Weekly nature-based educational workshops, the Schedel Summer Science Camp, special tours and accommodations for resident care groups, carefully planned demonstrations such as the vegetable garden and bonsai collection, as well as research opportunities, have come about over the years and provide opportunities that enhance the visceral experiences which greet SA&G beneficiaries.
Not immune to the effects of the recession of the late 2000’s, the endowment created by the Schedel’s to ensure the perpetuity of the gardens suffered a significant loss in value during that period. Combined with rising operating costs, the foundation is challenged to find new ways to preserve the Schedel’s works and legacy.
The Schedel Society represents a special group, committed to preserving and growing opportunities and, placing emphasis on the importance and relevancy of nature in all of our lives and fostering those ideals.
