Volunteers are the virtual heartbeat of many nonprofit organizations and that could not be more true at the SA&G. In every aspect of the operations, volunteers help ensure that tens of thousands of visitors each year continue to have the opportunity to study and appreciate nature. Whether greeting visitors in the Brown Welcome Center, planting and maintaining the more than 100 beds on the grounds, helping with special events or building a trellis in the bonsai shelter— volunteers are everywhere here!

Not immune to the effects of the recession of the late 2000’s, the endowment created by the Schedel’s to ensure the perpetuity of the gardens suffered a significant loss in value during that period. Combined with rising operating costs, the foundation is challenged to find new ways to preserve the Schedel’s works and legacy.
The Schedel Society represents a special group, committed to preserving and growing opportunities and, placing emphasis on the importance and relevancy of nature in all of our lives and fostering those ideals.
